Da "half word" a "this is the girlfriend": come sarebbe il palermitano parlato dagli inglesi

"Bella vita", "botta ri sali". "agneddu e sucu e finiu u' vattiu": la lingua siciliana è ricca di espressioni, dalle origini più disparate, senza le quali non potremmo esprimerci appieno. Sono così diffuse e pregne di significato che ne sono nate t-shirt e pagine Facebook, siti web e veri e propri dizionari.

La cosa eccezionale è che il loro uso è assolutamente trasversale. A Palermo, come in tutta la Sicilia, certe espressioni fanno così parte della cultura che escono dai quartieri popolari e a usarle sono praticamente tutti.

E a tutti sarà capitato, nei momenti di "sivo" o di "babbìo" (e "babbiare" merita una trattazione a parte) di provare a tradurre in inglese le espressioni che usiamo tutti i giorni per rafforzare i concetti che stiamo esprimendo o per esplicitare sfumature che altrimenti non saremmo in grado di comunicare con altrettanta efficacia.
